After five or six years writing about food, I've re-imagined Delicious Libertine as a place to explore the iconography and connotations of food, of eating, and of exploration. The format is simple: alternating posts of pictures and short fiction. The pictures are of things I'm eating, cooking, or finding; the fiction places food at the center of the human experience.

The childhood of cinnamon vodka

As one does, I found a large piece of Egyptian cinnamon in the cupboard last weekend. Too big to be very useful in the day-to-day, I’m marrying it with a bottle of potato vodka. This is a picture of it after a week. This ought to be quite something in another six months or so.
